The School of Education Office of Admissions and Recruitment reviews all coursework documented on transcripts during the admissions process to determine if an applicant has met all requirements for entrance to a graduate program. Graduate students may be admitted with conditions due to missing prerequisite coursework (up to 12 undergraduate credits missing), exams, or pending NYS Certification. Admissions conditions are listed on the physical letter of acceptance to Hunter College.
Graduate Students may be admitted with undergraduate course admissions conditions if they did not meet all liberal arts or content-specific course requirements for their graduate program. Admissions requirements for each program are listed on the admission page for each program.
Undergraduate coursework conditions can be satisfied in a number of ways. When admissions conditions are complete, students must provide evidence such as a transcript, evaluation report, or score report in the Admissions Conditions Completion Form.
Students seeking to complete their admission condition at Hunter College will not be able to use graduate financial aid toward the cost of the course(s) and must be prepared to pay for the course through another method. For questions on admission conditions and financial aid impacts, please contact School of Education Reception at soereception@hunter.cuny.edu.

Coursework Note for Students Admitted Prior to Fall 2018
In June 2017, the School of Education adopted new liberal arts and science admission requirements for many, but not all, teacher education master’s degree and advanced certificate programs. In accordance with the requirements for certification by the New York State Education Department, applicants to these programs are required to have:
“a General Education core in the liberal arts and sciences to include artistic expression, communication, information retrieval, concepts in history and social sciences, humanities, a language other than English, scientific and mathematical processes, and written analysis and expression”
Students admitted prior to Fall 2018 may request a second review of their admissions conditions using the new guidelines by submitting the re-evaluation request form. Students are advised to complete the form and await results prior to enrolling in coursework to satisfy the admission conditions.
New York State Certification Conditions
Many School of Education graduate programs require prior New York State Teacher Certification for admission. In some situations, applicants are admitted with the condition that they receive NYS certification within a timeframe determined by the school. Applicants interested in learning more about certification should visit the New York State Education Department.
If you were admitted with a TCERT Admissions Condition, a hold will be placed on your CUNYfirst account if certification is not obtained by the date listed on your mailed acceptance letter. Please contact our Office of Academic and Student Affairs at soe.oasa@hunter.cuny.edu with proof of certification completion if the deadline for your TCERT Admissions Condition has passed.
If you have questions about meeting admissions conditions, including confirming if a course in mind meets a condition, please first contact the Office of Admissions and Recruitment at soeadmission.conditions@hunter.cuny.edu.
When admissions conditions are complete, you must send evidence of a college transcript, evaluation report, or score report by completing the “Admissions Conditions Completion Form” below.
